    Film Review: Saiyaara

Brooding rising star Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday) and quiet, resilient lyricist Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda) cross paths at a time when both are trying to heal from their pasts. What begins as a gentle connection soon blossoms into love, only to be tested by an unexpected tragedy that threatens to pull them apart. Mohit Suri’s latest romantic musical, “Saiyaara,” brings together raw emotions, stirring melodies, and striking visuals to tell this heartfelt story.

The film opens with heartbreak: Vaani is left at the altar, forcing her to piece her life back together. Six months later, working as an intern journalist, she meets Krish — a talented yet troubled musician determined to make his mark. Through shared struggles and quiet moments, they become each other’s anchor. The romance feels warm and genuine, making it easy to root for them.

Yet, when tragedy strikes, the story moves too quickly, glossing over what exactly happens and why it matters so deeply. This rush leaves parts of the narrative feeling less convincing, and some emotional beats don’t get the time they deserve. It’s a familiar romantic arc, but the film keeps it fresh by grounding it in today’s social media-driven world of reels and viral collaborations.

Mohit Suri succeeds in capturing the emotional essence of the story, though uneven pacing sometimes slows the film down or speeds through key moments. Still, many scenes land beautifully, thanks in part to the evocative soundtrack by a team of talented composers including Faheem Abdullah, Tanishk Bagchi, Mithoon, Vishal Mishra, and others. John Stewart Eduri’s background score adds further depth, while Vikas Sivaraman’s cinematography brings a rich, cinematic quality to the live performances and tender scenes alike.

Ahaan Panday makes a confident and impressive debut as Krish, blending swagger and raw vulnerability, especially in the film’s emotional climax. His transformation from an ambitious musician to someone deeply changed by love and loss feels authentic. Aneet Padda matches him well, balancing quiet strength and soft vulnerability. One standout scene shows her reflecting on how genuine emotions in music can outlast fleeting trends — a moment that feels both timeless and timely.

At its heart, “Saiyaara” is a romantic musical that leans into melody and emotion. While the story’s tragic turn could have been handled with more depth, strong performances, heartfelt music, and striking visuals make it a worthwhile watch — especially if you love stories about love, healing, and music’s power to bring people together.

It’s a film that may not reinvent the genre but still manages to leave you humming its tunes and thinking of its tender moments long after the credits roll.
